New Research about Emojis Publishing Soon!

It’s been a few months since our last post, but we’ve been busy!

December 7th is Westfield State University’s Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity. The lab will be there, so you can check out our most recent work! Kayla Ovelheiro will be presenting her ongoing research, testing how pressure (i.e., stress) impacts individuals with varying working memory capacities. Katie Chapman will be presenting her eye-tracking work on how anxiety changes the way we attend and process negative (i.e., violent / gross) images. Allison Webster and Olivia Gwynn will co-present some of the data we’ve collected on caffeine and working memory (digit span and prospective memory). It’s gonna be good! If you aren’t able to make it to campus, don’t worry — we’ll share the posters here.

Also, the first student-driven project in the TAM Lab was accepted for publication! This project, looking at emojis affect our understanding of simple messages, will be published in the APA journal Psychology of Popular Media Culture. It’s not available yet, but you’ll be able to find it soon here: http://psycnet.apa.org/PsycARTICLES/journal/ppm/onlinefirst . When it’s available in PDF form, we’ll share the links with you!
